Susan McGalla’s Influence on Women

Susan McGalla is a very well respected women in the business world. Her story begins in 1986 when she worked for the Joseph Horne Company. She acquired a lot of marketing and managerial experience in this position, but by 1994 Susan McGalla had moved on to American Eagle Outfitters. She rose up the ranks over the following years working in various departments along the way. Before she knew it, Susan McGalla had become the president and chief merchandising officer. Her tenure came to an end in 2009 when she left the company to pursue a private consultant career.

The next step Susan McGalla took occurred in January 2011 when she became the executive officer at Wet Seal Inc., unfortunately she hit a major roadblock right after. She became pregnant shortly after starting and the company took a sharp decline. She was later forced out by the company board. At last, her current position is Vice President of Business Strategy and Creative Development for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Her two brothers and dad would always make sure she worked for what she wanted. This was a major force that always drove her forward. The article goes on to say that women in general lack this support. Women supporting other women is the key to breaking the ceiling. Sponsorship opportunities are also a good way to encourage women to work in higher positions.

Women in business have come a long way over the years. In the 21st century, many women do hold positions of power. There are countless women as CEOs or holding government positions. Unfortunately, the long standing negative bias towards women continues to make it hard for women to rise up in masses. Susan McGalla is an example of where hard work can get you in the future. She is a great role model for any women who needs someone to look up to.
